Family relationships are recorded by linking people as children or parents, building a tree. Relationships like grandparent and grandchild are inferred through the connecting links. However, some associations between people are not part of the family tree — for example, godparents or heirs to a title.
Open the Associations tab of the Current Person Other Detail dialog (click the … button next to the name fields). Use the buttons at the top of the grid to add, delete, or edit associations.
When adding or editing an association, you can select a description from the pre-populated list or type your own.
Most association types are for your own reference. However, inheritance associations — heir, co-heir, heiress, and co-heiress — are used in reports and charts. These expand phrases in narrative text: for example, "son of" becomes "son and heir of", following the conventions of traditional pedigrees.
