The chart’s title, its key (legend), and the "last updated" label can be positioned directly on the chart while editing, in much the same way as people and families. Their text and whether they appear at all are set in the Chart Properties panel; their placement can be adjusted on the chart itself.
In editing mode, click the title, the key, or the "last updated" label. A highlighted box appears around it, with a small toolbar beside it carrying the things you adjust while placing it. While one of these elements is selected, the usual person and family toolbars step out of the way; click any person, or bare paper, to return to normal editing.
Everything on a chart sits in the same way: it is anchored to a point on the page, and then offset from that anchor. Learn it once and it holds for the title, the key, the "last updated" label and any picture or caption you add — see Drawing objects and pictures.
The anchor is a compass point — N, S, E, W, the four corners, and for the title the two in-between points NNW and NNE at the quarter marks along the top. The offset is how far the element sits from there, in millimetres.
Offsets are measured inwards from whichever edge you have anchored to. A positive number always means further in, wherever the thing is anchored, so there is never a corner where you have to stop and work out whether you want a minus sign: 10 and 10 is ten millimetres in from the corner, whichever corner that is. Where the anchor is on a centre line rather than an edge, there is no "inwards", so the element centres on that line and the offset simply moves it right or down.
The quickest way to move an element a long way is the Anchor button on its toolbar: pick the point to hang it from and the element goes there, ready to fine-tune. The menu ticks the anchor in use, and offers every point the element accepts. Choosing an anchor puts the element in that place — so if you had nudged it away from its old anchor, set that up again at the new one.
Drag the element and it follows the mouse; hold Shift to keep the movement to one direction, and press Escape mid-drag to put it back exactly where it was. The dashed line shows the anchor it hangs from — dragging changes the offsets and leaves the anchor alone, so pick the anchor first and fine-tune from there.
The arrow keys nudge a selected element a millimetre at a time, for the small adjustment a drag cannot place precisely.
You can also type the offsets directly, in the Chart Properties panel, beside each element’s anchor. The boxes always show the offsets in use, even on an older chart that has never been moved — so the numbers are never a mystery.
Every menu ticks the setting in use, so the buttons also answer what an element is currently set to.
Right-click a selected element for the same choices as its toolbar — Text size, Style, Anchor and Hide for the title, Columns, Style, Anchor and Hide for the key, Anchor and Hide for the "last updated" label — with the setting in use ticked on every list.
